    Need Creative Ideas - Refacing

I used to do a lot of kitchen designing. I have done quotes for refurbs where it has got really stupid on cost and sometimes trying to change what is there can create more problems than its worth. My suggestion would be to look more at flooring and wall finishes to create the change you would like.

Boiling water in a teflon pot...BAD??

Ive used plenty of non stick pans and never had one that gave off a smell, and we have never had that problem in store either. If you are sure it has nothing to do with anything you have cleaned it with or cooked in it, take it back as soon as possible and ask the store for their advice. There...

    Rust on baking pans?

I suspect your baking pans are tin and the rust is oxidisation caused by exposure to the air while still wet. Try getting the rust off with a brillo pad, then wash well and dry them thoroughly. I dont think the rust will harm you anyway. I went camping years ago and we had one steel paella pan...

Olive oil on Bamboo Cutting Board

I dont like the idea of using mineral oil. I use olive oil, mother natures best, when my 6 year old beech wood board starts to look dry I put a little olive oil on some kitchen roll and rub it in, then wipe off any excess. It doesnt go sticky unless you use too much. After that I go back to...

How do you nicely tell someone about food safety?

I agree with roadfix, you've got to be a bit lighthearted about it, after all if she and her family don't get sick or any of her guests, she could be very insulted. They must have built up some level of immunity over time, and I guess that if food is cooked thoroughly enough most if not all...

    Somethin's burnin...

Truka heat diffusers are flat and efficient, so very good on gas hobs as well and they come in two sizes. If you have a flat top hob like ceramic or solid top range cooker you can cheat by placing 3 or 4 coins of the same thickness on the top and placing your pan on those to diffuse the heat...

    What's your favorite wooden spoon?

My favorite is a wooden spoon with a corner and a hole in the middle. Sounds wierd but the corner allows you to stop stuff getting settled in the corner of the base of the pan while the hole in the middle allows stirring without creating a wave. All that technology from a lowly wooden spoon.

    Opening Cans

The OXO Good Grip can opener is good but I had a Culinare Magican can opener that fits onto the top rather than the side of the can and it was brilliant, lasted around 3 or four years which I reckon isn't bad in a 5 person household including more than a passing interest from the dog.

    Tips for opening jars

Most of the time the problem is the vacuum created when the lid is sealed on. There is a gadget called a Jar Key which you simply use to lift the edge of the lid away from the jar breaking the vacuum and in most cases allowing the lid to be removed easily. Not just a young persons product, many...

What is the point of a garlic press?

Best gadget I've got for garlic is the Garlic Twist, so easy to use and to clean. Apart from just garlic its great for adding chilli and then twisting and mixing, then add some ginger, unpeeled, and twist to mix them together and you have a stir fry spice mix.

    What knives are the best?

I used to sell Sanelli knives in the shop and they are a really good knife and sharpen well, the handle is definitely more a commercial style but very comfortable. That is why we used to sell them as most people looking for domestic use knives tend to want the three rivet handle design...
