Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

I didn't have time to check it out before but I am now, I should find something here, there is a lot to look at! Ohhh that's too funny!! I have noticed lots of little weeds growing in almost all my pots, they are a pretty green and have 2 small banana shaped leaves, I dont know what...

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

I admit I over-think things (I'm an obsessive thinker, always have been, always will be) and that makes it hard for me to actually take action and do things, and decide what to do and how to do it, because I get caught up in the thinking/analyzing/planning part of it! I don't have to worry...

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

I realize that gardening is an art, and you can't just buy a bunch of seeds and stick them all in pots at the same time and expect them all to grow perfectly. I guess it's just overwhelming and confusing to learn how to grow each thing, there is so much out there and everything has it's own...

Are there any personal chefs here?

There are 2 community colleges within half an hour of me and neither one has a culinary program. It seems to be hard to find around here, we do have a Le Cordon Bleu though, and another big college but those are both WAY too much. Yeah, unfortunately that is true. I am horrible at selling...

Are there any personal chefs here?

Patty...for some reason it wouldn't let me quote your entire message so I'll answer it like this. This website says you have to cook in the client's home, but this isn't the one I read it on, i've actually read it in many places, almost every site I go on that talks about personal chefs says...

Are there any personal chefs here?

I found a handful of schools that train you to be a personal chef, I literally felt like there were too many to choose just one, I wanted to go to them all! Some were online, some were actual physical schools. But they were all too expensive. I actually read that it's illegal to cook food in...

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

I was unaware there were 2 different kinds of bean plants! Thanks! and that's a good tip too, using branches from trees! I can't believe I haven't thought of that!

Are there any personal chefs here?

I hear stories like that way too much. That scares me off even more. But then on the other hand, you got people saying you need a degree because that proves you studied everything, and aren't just doing it for a hobby like most mothers in the world who have to cook for their children.

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

This year I used that self-watering one with 70 spots in it, so there was NO way I could tip it upside down to get each one out because it takes 2 hands just to pick the thing up, and it's flimsy, you're actually not supposed to pick it up. In the directions it just said carefully transplant...

Are there any personal chefs here?

I was a cook at McDonalds for 5 years, does that count? They actually said I was the best grill person they've ever seen. I also cooked at a teenage shelter for about 6 months, I made food for about 15 people every day. That job actually was part of what made me want to become a chef...

WOW! That is amazing!! Thanks for sharing that, I'm gonna tell everyone I know who has a garden about that trick!

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

Wow, nice mustard greens! and this is your first year? Impressive! I have used Miracle Grow soil, and I've also used fertilizer pellets too. Except for the crappy dirt that comes in those starter kits, the more I think about those the more I want to grow from plants next year, at...

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

Last year (and this year too) I started the seeds in April and last year I was able to get some stuff for a good portion of the summer so I didn't feel like it was a waste, I just wish more of my stuff would have grown correctly. I had a lot of green beans that died only because I didn't have...

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

I have only bought a plant once and it was the only size they had, it didn't look very big to me, really.

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

Oh I'm not starting them now, I started them 2 months ago, I'm just asking in general what is better. But since you've never had good luck, I don't feel so bad now! I just wish there was a way I could afford it because a lot of plants are $10 and that would cost me almost $200 to buy...

Are there any personal chefs here?

I hope this is the right forum to post this question, I couldn't find anywhere else that seemed right. I want to become a personal chef, I'm just unsure of what path I need to get there. There are culinary schools but I haven't found any that are accredited and not $40,000. I don't want to be...

    Has anyone ever made zaatar?

So I did email Gaby's, and somebody replied to me saying they only use a basic recipe no different than the premixed stuff you can buy in most stores. I guess I'll just have to try to find different premixes to experiement with!

Is it better to grow from seeds or buy established plants?

This is only my 2nd summer growing my own vegetables and herbs, and I am still unsure if growing from seeds is better. I only did it because it's cheaper, and I wanted to grow a lot of things (around 20 or so), so that would be very expensive to buy all those as already established plants. But...

    Has anyone ever made zaatar?

Oh thanks Barbara! I didn't think resteraunts actually gave out their recipes but I'll give it a shot, I have nothing to lose!

    Has anyone ever made zaatar?

When I was in California a few years ago I ate at a Mediterranean resteraunt that had this stuff called zaatar, it's sauce/dip that you use with pita bread. I researched online how to make it myself, and when I tried, it tasted awful and nothing like the stuff from the resteraunt. I recently...

What are some healthy & light pasta sauces?

Thanks for the suggestions! This is making my mouth water already! I don't have any dry white wine but will pick some up soon! I don't know why I never thought to saute anything, I just threw it all together once the pasta was done, raw. Thanks again, i'm excited to try this next time!

What are some healthy & light pasta sauces?

DcSaute...I would like to make my own tomato sauce eventually, I did plant tomatoes last year but they never grew (I'm a beginner!), this year maybe I'll have better luck. I will buy some vine ripened tomatoes fresh sometime and try it. I always prefer things fresh anyway, the stuff in a jar...

What are some healthy & light pasta sauces?

I do use EVOO, I just didn't mention it because I thought it was a given! I've never sauted my garlic in it though, I just put it all in there together after my pasta is done. Next time I will saute it, that's probably the right way to do it anyway, I just like to experiment without...

What are some healthy & light pasta sauces?

As far as pasta sauce goes, I really only know of 2; tomato sauce and alfredo sauce. I'm bored with tomato sauce and lost interest in alfredo sauce because it's too fattening and the flavor got overwhelming to me. So i'm trying to find some kind of sauce for pasta that is light and healthy. My...

Question about minced garlic in pasta

I've actually never made sauces before, I'm not that advanced yet! I do have some garlic flavored olive oil but I like using the real thing, I like seeing it IN my food. I have just never made sauces before because it seems fatty to use anything creamy. I have lost my taste for alfredo...
