    Storage Containers for Bread

I saw this one, but worried that it would let in too much air and make the bread stale if it was in there more than a couple days. I have zero experience with bread boxes.

    Storage Containers for Bread

No freezing; I don't care for the texture of bread that has been frozen. I just need something to keep it from going stale for a few days while we eat it. No, I don't care how it looks, just how it functions. Your point about the bread needing to breathe a little is a good one. But I always...

    Storage Containers for Bread

Thank you. I also don't appreciate being reprimanded for responding to someone else's rude response to me. My sarcasm was not more insulting than their comment that I should try Googling it.

    Storage Containers for Bread

Like these? Do the snapping tabs hold up well? I had another brand that used those, and they broke off after not too much use, so I've always been a little hesitant to try other locking tab containers.

    Storage Containers for Bread

Golly gee, I never would have thought of that! What a novel idea.:glare: I was asking for recommendations of ones that people have actually used and like, not for others to do my searching for me because I don't know how or am too lazy. I've been looking in stores and not finding anything. I...

    Storage Containers for Bread

I've been looking for some plastic storage containers that I can use for homemade bread. Most containers are not sized right to fit an entire loaf of bread, so I end up having to slice up my loaf, then store it in multiple smaller containers. Anyone have one that they use? Please, no suggestions...

Dutch oven breads, aka no-knead breads

Interesting. I've never once seen percentages in a recipe. For anything. Obviously any parts can be expressed as a percentage of a whole, but I've never really thought of ingredients that way. Now I'm going to think about that the next time I prepare a dough.

Dutch oven breads, aka no-knead breads

I have to ask...can you explain what you mean by hydration; I get that it refers to moisture content, but how do you know? This is not something I've ever seen in a bread recipe, nor heard discussed before.

Things you don't eat anymore because your SO doesn't care for them

My husband will eat most things, but is restricted on what he is able to eat regularly. I love rice, but he can only tolerate it in very small amounts, and not very often. This makes me sad, because I make a mean risotto. At least, I used to.

    Question about Lasagna?

I could not disagree more. They are not interchangeable. Not in taste or consistency. I have tried lasagna made with cottage cheese. I did not know it was made with cottage cheese until I put it in my mouth, at which point, it was VERY obvious what it was made with, (though if I'd been paying...

    Question about Lasagna?

I'm sorry, did you say you put cottage cheese in your lasagna? That is so much worse than celery. I'd welcome a pound of celery in my lasagna before I'd eat it with cottage cheese. THAT is an abomination.

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

I recently finished the Rabbit in Red trilogy by Joe Chianakas. It's a thriller based on the horror genre; not really horror in and of itself, in my opinion. It's somewhat Stephen King-like, though for a younger audience. They were easy, entertaining reads.

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

The Kafir Project by Lee Burvine. It's sort of a sci-fi thriller. And not sci-fi like in Star Wars, but through introducing technology that doesn't exist into today's world. It's really good.

Do you shop frequently or use up the fridge?

While I keep some non-perishable staples in the pantry, I only buy enough food for about 2-3 days at a time. I don't like freezing meat, so I need to shop 2-3 times a week in order to have fresh meat every day. It also requires minimal meal planning and keeps us from wasting a lot of food.

    2017 Christmas Cookie Swap

I make my childhood favorite spritz (I found a great deal on a 1974 Wear-Ever Super Shooter last year which allowed me to bring these cookies into my lineup; every other brand I tried ended up at Goodwill due to poor performance), kolacky, cut-out cookies, and yes, chocolate chip (though I agree...

    Sharp Knives

So after this discussion, I broke down and bought myself a small Santoku knife. On the third use last night, I cut my finger, and while it didn't require stitches, it did bleed quite a bit. I was even being extra careful because of the unfamiliar feel and the sharpness. 30 years of using a steak...

    Your favorite soup for winter?

Yep, same here. I love leftovers, especially soup. It always tastes better the second day...or third. I had my deviated septum fixed 2 weeks ago, and the day before the surgery I made a huge pot of chicken soup and that's what I ate for the whole next week while I couldn't cook. Not sure what my...

    Your favorite soup for winter?

I'm also a lover of soup who is married to someone who does not like soup. He'll tolerate eating it on a limited basis, assuming it is more chunky than broth. I like broth. My favorite is honestly a basic homemade chicken soup, but beef vegetable is a close second. I make homemade dumplings to...

    What did you hate?

Broccoli and cauliflower. I'd only eat them smothered in cheese. Now I love plain steamed broccoli, but I still hate cauliflower. Not even cheese is enough to get me to eat it. I didn't like steak as a kid, because my parents only made sirloin cooked to death, so I just thought steak was dry...

    2017 Thanksgiving Menu

Got it! I was confused why a Canadian would be celebrating an American holiday!

    2017 Thanksgiving Menu

First, I noticed you are in Canada, so I'm surprised you are doing T-day in the first place. Are you originally from the US? Second, why do you have to do it? I live in the US, and I don't. It was very freeing when we gave it up. Take back your T-day, and do what you want!

    2017 Thanksgiving Menu

Our menu will include lo mien, beef with broccoli, sweet & sour chicken, and egg rolls. We celebrate Chinese thanksgiving, wherein we give thanks to the owners of the only Chinese restaurant in town open that day. We started this several years ago when holidays with our families became...

    Slow cookers on timers?

I rarely cook in a slow cooker, and like you, I am gone much longer than the 8 hours the food needs to cook. For that reason, I usually reserve crockpot meals for the weekend. However, I have used the timer for some crockpot meals, and it works just fine. But I only use it on meals that need a...

How do you cook your stuffed cabbage?

I'm from a Polish family; I've only ever seen them baked in the oven. And now I want to make some.

    ISO a new dishwasher

When we had to buy a new dishwasher, I took a set of my dishes to the store with me to try them out inside the dishwasher to see if they fit. (I got some really weird looks from customers and employees alike, but I take appliance buying very seriously!) I found the same issue with the Bosch; it...
