Oh good! Deirdre loves eating mexican food when she comes to the US. About 10 years ago we tried making some dishes while I was there, but there were little to no speciality ingrediants available. She had told me recently however, that there were many more thing available now in the stores.

    Ingredients available in UK/Ireland

I have a good friend who lives in Ireland and I was wanting to send her a recipe this afternoon. I haven't got ahold of her yet, so I need to ask you all...do you know if enchilada sauce and corn tortillas are readily available in stores. I am guessing that enchilada sauce may be hard to come...

Food Network: Olive oil and Corn starch

Did anyone see the program last night that was a cooking competition in Miami Beach. Cat Cora was one of the judges. I saw a chef do something interesting. He whisked together olive oil and corn starch and said that it makes the tastes of the dish melt in the mouth of the eater. Looking...

    Substitutes for chorizo and fennel

Yes you are right. I really thought I would be able to find fennel so I had got a bunch of other ingrediants in my cart before I made it to the produce section. It is just so frustrating living in a small town. The stores are totally lacking in finding some ingrediants. Fresh herbs, good...

Can I use these vanilla beans?

Well I would highly question the quality of this product. I just don't think it would be worth it.

Can I use these vanilla beans?

So vanilla beans are expensive everywhere huh? I always see chefs on TV using them, but I had never seen them in real life here in small town USA. I happened to see some the other day in the spice area, but it was like $8 for 3 of them. I couldn't imagine spending that much unless the recipe...

    Substitutes for chorizo and fennel

But you are talking about the fennel spice right? I am talking about the fennel bulb. I think it is a great idea to post the recipe. I don't have it with me, but I will post it tomorrow. It is in the Fine Cooking magazine for Sept (i believe). It is a roasted potato and fennel salad.

    Substitutes for chorizo and fennel

I am making some new recipes this week and I am frustrated by living in a small town! I had trouble finding several ingrediants. One of the biggest is chorizo because it is a main part of a recipe. The recipe called for ready to eat chorizo. Any substitutes? I ended up buying hot sausage...

    Chocolate BBQ sauce

I made a version of it tonight and it was great. I got lots of praise for it! It really tasted good. That background taste of chocolate but not overly sweet or anything. Very much like mole. I actually had a total disaster making the recipe so I had to adapt it!! Michael--it may not be on...

    Chocolate BBQ sauce

I found a recipe for this in my Midwest Living magazine and I am very intrigued and would like to try it. I love mole, so I am imagining it is the same type of thing. I only found one other recipe online and it used Hershey's dark syrup. Anyone here ever try it??

Made a great grilled pizza yesterday!

That recipe is actually from that show (just a little modified by me). What we did is grill the one side, flip them over, olive oil, toppings and then let it sit for a minute or so on the grill. Then we put them on the top rack and closed the grill so the toppings would get good and melty...
