    Late Blight on Tomatoes

I had the most beautiful tomatoes this year, all different kinds of heirlooms, but then we got continous rain for about 3 weeks and now they all have late blight : ( I always save the seed (I have one variety that is from my grandmother), but I've never had devastation such as this disease has...

    Anyone make wine at home?

Save seeds to replant for next year?

We've been saving my grandmothers tomatoes for over 60 years through the generations. I rinse the seeds to get the sticky stuff off of them and then dry them for around a week on a plate. Then I store them in small glass jars in the closet until next year. I have also saved squash and...

    Tomato question

I have never frozen tomatoes with the skins on, but if I had I think that I would just make the sauce skins, seeds, and all. You can always run the tomatoes through a food processor and go from there and then the seeds and skin will get blended in.

Fagor Splendid Pressure Cooker for canning?

I have a 24 quart Pressure canner because I put up alot of tomatoes (which are considered low acid) It cuts the processing time in half. When I'm doing pickles, hot peppers or something with acid I usually do not pressure can because it is easier to use the my smaller canner for shorter...

    Rachel Ray/Dog Food

I saw it in the grocery store and I was amazed that her name was on yet another grocery item. At least the dog food doesn't cost 2 or 3 times as much as the other varieties of dog food. Unlike the Rachel Ray EVOO.

    Vacuum Cleaner

I went to a vacuum dealership and decided to get a Riccar. Upon getting it home, I was not to thrilled with it. It works perfectly on carpet, but 80% of my house is hardwood. The hose attachment part is way to short for me also. I'm going to give it one more try and maybe return it.

    Animal abuse

I raise and did breed rat terriers, so I almost became physically ill when I read that. They are the best dogs and if it was barking, it was more than likely trying to warn that man about something. I cannot begin to understand the behavior of people that I read about everyday.

    ISO creamy tomato soup

I've been making it this summer alot using almost the same ingredients you do, but I don't make a slurry. I cook the tomato and veggie mixture with chicken broth until it is about 1/2 the orginal volume and then I put all of the ingredients in the blender. After, it is blended I add the milk...

How do you make creamed corn?

I cut the corn of the cobs but not down to the cob. Then I go back and scrape the cobs with my knife to get all of the corn's pulp and milk out. When you cook this mixture down with butter, you get creamed corn. I think in order to make a soup, you could just substitute canned or frozen corn...

    Red Wine in Spaghetti/tomato Sauce?

I use what I have on hand also. Sometimes its white, just not anything sweet. A merlot or cab sav. are usually the best though. In a pinch a tablespoon or so of balsamic vinegar is good in tomato sauce.

I let some of my spaghettis get too big last year. They seem to be alot more forgiving than regular squash. I would bake them. If they are past their prime, you can always compost them.
