I would have to say that the best BBQ in the Austin/ San Antonio area would hands down be Salt Lick, its located in Driftwood which is right outside of Austin.

Eric - there used to be a place on Barton Springs Road - between Congress and Zilker Park that was pretty good (don't remember the name - back early 70's) - just remember it was about a block or two from the Holiday House burger joint that had the tropical birds and aquariums.

And, have you ever tried Stubb's? It was close to I-35 and near downtown. It reminded me of Beal Street in Memphis - blues and BBQ.

Don't know if either of these places still exist.

Gonzales meat market BBQ in down town Gonzales Texas one of the best in Texas. Nothing like good BBQ and a cold Big Red.
