Hi, my mom gave me some buttermilk powder that she had. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use it as a substitution for skim milk powder? I'm assuming there would be a slight taste difference. I want to make some gulab jamun (skim milk powder balls deepfried and soaked in syrup) has anyone tried to make them with buttermilk powder? I think I might just make a batch with buttermilk powder to see what it would taste like anyway.

Thanks to anyone who responds!

I've used buttermilk powder in several baking recipes in place of milk. It works great. Of course there is a taste difference.

Do you like buttermilk a lot? I have a feeling you would really get a taste difference in a dish where it's a main ingredient like gulab jamon.

go for it on a rainy afternoon and not wait to try it out on guinea pigs (oops I meant guests) ...seems to me that you might have a great substitution going for you.......then post and let us know.......let the eagles fly!!!
