hey all,

i want to make my self an authentic malaysian curry that my grandma taught me when i was there. The vital ingrediant in this curry she adviced is tumeric leaf but back in the uk we dont have this. I admit we do have tumeric powder but the colour is completly different and i got a feeling it wont have the same flavour. What do you think ist he best substitution for this, my mum said bayleaf is quite good but to be honest i am not too sure

Thanks!!

Aaron

There is no substitute for turmeric leaves ... but as your Mum mentioned - bay leaves are about as close as you're going to get to the same flavor.

Powdered turmeric is different - it is the boiled, dried and ground rhizome.

You don't trust your Mum?
