Ouch. Myself I have fire extinguishers on each level of the house. The one in the kitchen is rated for most types of fires that can occur in the kitchen.
Still, handy piece of knowledge to have.
 
I am surprised they do not mention putting a lid on the pot instead of using a wet rag. The wet rag seems less safe to me than the lid that is made to fit the pot.
 
If you can't find a lid that fits or it is a pan that you don't have a lid for you can use any baking sheet. You goal is just to smother the flames.
 
Thanks for posting this. I have always been terrified of starting a stove fire lol... and I would have never thought to put a wet rag on it if it did happen! Thank you again.
