Roaster "how-to" for the holidays?

Getting nostalgic, just purchased a big (18-quart?) roaster (with the "browning lid" attachment) for Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas ham and Easter lamb (etc.) - need to hear from folks who have experience using these in ALL their "capabilities" - to make those "big meat" dishes, of course, but also for baking, stews, soups, etc.....
