I have to agree with GB. If I could buy a really good bagel on a consistent basis, I'd gladly do so even if they were square.
Bagels are round because the cook more evenly if they are round. They have holes in them so the center will be cooked when the rest of the bagel is cooked. Relax, the round bagel will outlive the square bagel because the round bagel just makes sense and the square bagel is just a marketing gimmick.
