Reindeer eat moss to keep warm.

Moss is hard to digest and has little nutritional value, but strangely enough, reindeer fill
up on it because it contains a special chemical that helps keep their body fluids warm.
The chemical keeps them from freezing much the same way that anti-freeze keeps a car
from freezing up in winter.
