1. The master before there were masters at drums - Buddy Rich
2. Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer fame
3. John Bonome from Led Zeppelin
4. Ian Pace of Deep Purple
5. Neil Pert from Rush.
6. Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad
7. Phill Collins of Genesis

The order of the above noted drummers is random. They are all masters of the drums, and I would be hard pressed to pick one who is better than another.

Your turn.

How did I miss all of those guys? I mean, the classic jazz sound of Bruford, and the ridiculous poly-rhythmic beats of Bozio with Zappa. Ginger Baker, I confess, I haven't heard his solo work. But I have seen his name posted in other places as an exceptional drummer.

Gene Krupa was from the 1920's, a little before my time.

this is dh's list, who used to be a drummer in a rock and roll band....

number one all time favorite; Steve Gadd, (Paul Simon plus many other bands)

Leon Helm, the Band

and Neil Peart, Rush

I would add journeyman drummer Tommy Aldridge...Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Ted Nugent and others.
