Hi. I was wondering if there was a substitute for egg yolks in making ice cream. Could I use Egg Beaters? Would it have the same effect? What does the egg yolk even do for the ice cream? Thanks for your time.

Hi, ix. Welcome to DC.

Eggbeaters contain no egg yolks. I don't think they would do the trick. The egg yolks add richness and help provide a smooth, creamy texture.

You can also make ice cream with no eggs at all.

Oh okay. I just don't like all of that cholesterol in the egg yolk. Thanks for the responses.

If you're going to eat enough of that ice cream to worry about the cholesterol from the eggs, you better worry about all the fat from whatever dairy product(s) you plan on using, too!

BTW, I just read an article ON ABOUT.COM that says you can substitute egg beaters for whole egg. Scroll down to the last paragraph.
