Dutch Kruidnoten / peppernuts
250 gram self raising flour
125 gram dark brown sugar
100 gram unsalted butter
2 tablespoon speculaas spices
1 pinch salt
3 tablespoon milk
Combine everything in bowl and work until you have soft dough.
Heat the oven to 150C. Roll hazelnut size dough balls and put on a baking tray with parchment paper.
Bake for 20 minutes until brown and cracked on top. Leave to cool on a wire rack .
Home made speculaas spice.
8 teaspoon cinnamon powder
2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
2 teaspoon cloves powder
1 teaspoon ginger powder
1 teaspoon cardamom
1 teaspoon white pepper powder
Optional extra:
1 teaspoon anise powder as well,
and/or 1 teaspoon mace powder
Mix and a glass jar and shake, done, perfect for speculaas or kruidnoten anything you want to spice up.
