newton, how about something with apples, considering your name?
(c'mon everyone, are you all so old you don't remember having to be led by the nose into things? hopefully, this one will appropriately hit him/her on the head)

apples can be peeled and sliced precisely, showing knife skills, and will oxidize quickly forcing you to put them into acidulated water as soon as they're sliced, showing your understanding of the ingredient.

now take it from there ... (baked apples with cinnamon and vanilla a la mode, roast pork tenderloin with apples and onions, apple and sauerkraut pierogies, etc.)

Maybe if you look in cook books you would have better luck. With all the pics you would be able to see what your chosen food should look like. Good luck on your test.

Newton - you have been answered by a few professional chefs and at least a couple of award winning home cooks. But, their questions go unanswered:

1. What type of dish(s) do you want?
2. What is your skill level?
3. What level are you trying to demonstrate?
4. What ingredients will you have available?

We get similar questions at the end of each school semester ... fall, summer, spring - and as much as we would like to help we really can't without getting a few simple questions answered.
