What spices or whatever would you add to this dish to liven up the taste?

Sprinkle with Lawry's Seasoning Salt or equivalent.

If you have not already mixed in the beef, season the beef to your tastes first, then add to the mix. Sometimes just that is more than enough.
 
Diced peppers, either hot or mild. They add a bit of texture, and some flavor (especially hot chili peppers).

For my husband I'd add little broccoli trees slightly cooked, for texture, and some nutritional yeast.
For myself I'd add cooked broccoli stems and then hit it with some vinegar-y hot sauce, or balsamic vinegar.
 
Sambal or an other hot sauce or paste

Obviously, we can't taste it but maybe it simply needs a bit of salt or dash of lemon juice ;)
