"Scotch Eggs" always reminds me of an incident that happened to my dad while he was courting my mom. He took her to some restaurant in NYC where, to look sophisticated, he ordered "Scotch Woodcock" off the menu, expecting to be served a couple of small game birds. Now "Scotch Woodcock" is actually scrambled eggs on anchovy-spread on toast, but this particular restaurant apparently had their terminology/recipes confused & brought my dad two "Scotch Eggs". Of course, he didn't say a word & ate his sausage coated hard-boiled eggs as if that was what he expected to be served all along - lol!!
