    Yummy elderflower sirup

It's elderflower time here in the South of the UK and I am happily making lots of elderflower sirup. I am using an old family recipe and it's delicious. The sirup keeps for ages and dilutes about 1:10. You need: 40 elderflower heads 2 l Water 90 g citric acid (or the juice of about 9 lemons) 3...

    Ginger Beer - help

Stopped making ginger beer for a while now. It wasn't unpleasant but not as nice as I thought it might be. Just a few days ago I found a home brewing shop in my town, all tucked away in the market!! They sell ginger beer kits. May try this next but at the moment it's elderflower time and I am...

    Recipe for window cleaner

This doesn't fit with the usual recipes on this site  but it has been very useful for me. It's a window cleaning concoction I was given by a friend. It's very easy to make and will clean your window without any nasty chemicals. Mix: 400 ml of water 3 tbsp/45 ml of vinegar 1/2 tsp/2.5...

    Ginger Beer - help

Just to keep you up to date, the third lot of Ginger beer did keep longer and as we were away for Easter matured for 2 weeks. The flavour is still not stunning but mixed with squash it's a very refreshing drink. Now I am on ginger beer lot 4. This time I am using fresh yeast, just in case that...

    Ginger Beer - help

Actually it wasn't ready yesterday. I forgot that I have to let it mature for a week. It smelled heavenly when I bottled it though.

    Ginger Beer - help

The second lot of ginger beer was not too bad. Very refreshing with some squash but still not gingery enough. I am trying only dried ginger this time and the plant has much more of a kick already. Will be ready on Wednesday ...

    Kitchen Drawer jams

Thanks for that. I do think, it would be easily installed and works as advertised. The one thing, I don't know is if it is possible to produce something like that cheaply enough and universal enough to fit all drawers.

How to Get Kids To Eat More Vegetable dishes?

My children only eat some vegetables but not others. My daughter hates tomatoes, onion and a lot of the green vegetables apart from broccoli. But she does eat everything she grows herself, so she'll eat chives and cress. The one big thing I came across was that my children just don't like a lot...

    Ginger Beer - help

I am on my second lot of Ginger Beer now. I made a yeast/sugar/ginger plant and then fed it ginger and sugar every day for seven days. The first lot I made, I made with fresh ginger, thinking that would taste better, but I used the same amount as in the recipe and it did not taste gingery at...

    Kitchen Drawer jams

I am designing a gadget that alleviates kitchen drawer jams. We have a utility draw that consistently jams and the gadget I am designing makes sure the draw never jams and also nothing will fall of the back of it into the kitchen unit. I can now fill my drawers without having to fiddle with it...

Fun Food for kids to cook

Thanks for these ideas. I'll try the salad next. Neither of them like to eat green leafy things. Only when they can pick them straight from the garden. My older one love the rocket last year, but won't go near any bought salad. Maybe if they make it themselves it will make a difference.

Fun Food for kids to cook

We are having pizza today. I have a bread maker, which makes lovely pizza dough and both my children (1 and 4 years) can roll out the dough and put all the ingredients I have prepared for them on. Everyone has his/her very own and very special pizza and they love to eat them. Do you have any...
