    Leftover Ham?

I use chopped ham (or bacon or salt pork, depends on what I have on hand) to start my green beans w/ new potatoes. Also use chopped ham in potato soup.

What's cookin' for Easter Dinner, 2011

There will probably only be 3 of us, but I'm still making a nice dinner. Spiral sliced glazed ham, green beans w/ new potatoes, homemade macaroni and cheese and deviled eggs. Chocolate layer cake w/ buttercream and Easter decorations. I hope everyone has a blessed Easter and that you are all...

    Blackberries

Wow, around here the blackberries aren't usually ripe until mid-summer at the earliest! My friend's Mom used to make the best blackberry cobbler, I think I need to get the recipe! Honestly, though, I really dislike the seeds in blackberries and raspberries. I'd love to try blackberry wine!

    What's your favorite wooden spoon?

Material-wise, I don't know exactly the type of wood it is that I like best, but I hate buying the cheap ones that splinter. OUCH!!! Shape-wise, I like the one with the flat blade best. I like to use it when browning ground meats or making oatmeal to keep things from sticking to the bottom of...

    Last Supper

Here is a very interesting article that addresses some of the questions in your post. I believe the actual article was written in 2001, but has some great info that I was not aware of. Was the Last Supper a Passover Seder - InterfaithFamily.com

Ella-I don't know the science of dipping unleavened bread. Just repeating what the article stated. :)

    Last Supper

Interesting topic, thanks for starting the thread. I saw this the other day and it may apply here. I don't think the Last Supper is specifically mentioned, but it is interesting to read. http://www.beliefnet.com/Health/Healthy-Living/10-Foods-and-Drinks-Jesus-Likely-Consumed.aspx Olives...

    Crockpot oatmeal a la McDonald's

How about adding the apples at the very end of the cooking time (no matter how you cook it)?? I sometimes cook up some apples with cinnamon and Splenda/butter flavor spray and keep in the fridge to add to my morning oatmeal. I also sometimes stir in frozen cherries or blueberries when I heat it...

    A good stiff icing

Consider the humidity as well as the temp. in your home when making the frosting. I have to agree that I will never (at least not very often....except in a major pinch ) buy canned frosting, either! I made my own birthday cake using my first ever buttercream and it was so good. I'm...

Flavors To Enhance Unsweetened Cherries In Cobbler

Actually, the filling thickened up well (the recipe used the flour to thicken). Other than the almond flavor, I think it would have been fine. I actually also added some frozen, chopped pears I had in the freezer because I noticed I didn't have as many cherries as I thought I did.

Flavors To Enhance Unsweetened Cherries In Cobbler

I used 1/2 tsp. of the almond extract. I maybe should have used less.

    No sugar added/low fat baking

I have (almost....I'm still trying, without much success) decided that it is impossible to have our cake and eat it, too, on the "healthy" front. Recently I have just decided to make the full-fat and/or sugar versions and try to limit the amount I eat of these treats. I've had several flops...

Flavors To Enhance Unsweetened Cherries In Cobbler

Just updating cos that's how I roll. I made the cobbler Friday evening and it wasn't good in any sense of the word. The recipe was a healthy whole wheat flour cobbler and I thought it had looked good AND it got good reviews. The topping/dough was really not good, nor was the filling I...

What have you had for breakfast lately?

I had my usual oatmeal this morning. I make up 5 servings of oatmeal every Sunday evening. I make it using water, cinnamon and butter flavor extract. I pack it and take it to work each morning where I micro it and add a small amount of brown sugar Splenda. Sometimes I throw in a few frozen...

Flavors To Enhance Unsweetened Cherries In Cobbler

Thanks guys! I think I'll keep the lemon juice (and also do lemon peel instead of the orange) and do a vanilla and almond mix. If the recipe turns out as good as I hope, I'll post it.:chef:

    Grilled Pork Chops

I like simple flavors with grilled pork. I would do rosemary, black pepper and garlic for a dry rub. Or mix all of these in oil and marinate.

Flavors To Enhance Unsweetened Cherries In Cobbler

I have some frozen, dark sweet cherries (unsweetened) that inadvertently became UNfrozen. I was looking for a recipe to use them up and found a cobbler recipe online that calls for mixed berries (frozen blackberries and raspberries, thawed). It calls for 1 tsp. lemon juice in the filling and 1/2...

    Butter Bell Crock - Comments/feedback?

Has anyone ever used of these? It is the Butter Bell Crock that keeps butter fresh and spreadable at room temperature. I wonder if it would be worth investing in....I use butter sometimes, but not every single day. Butter Bell Crocks
