This is for all the folks who have been waiting for the Twinkie/twinkey cookbook; it is available at Michaels for about $14. Darn it is too expensive for a joke gift.
If you will all pitch in for the cost of the meal, I'll pay for my own flight and hotel to eat it and to report back. That would only be about $5 from each member.
Thanks guys!!!
Smoked turkey is already cooked and in a sealed bag should be fine; however, I would cut it up, repackage and freeze it today. Remember when you remove it from the freezer again to eat it that day. I know refreezing changes some in texture but at least you will have delicious smoked turkey...
Crisco is a hydrogenated vegetable oil usually soybean in the US. You can sub with any veg. oil shortening, oleo or butter. Depending what you are amking the texture might be different. Crisco makes cripier cookies. Cakes you will not notce a difference as long as the sub is 100% fat. Oleo is...
Budron.... You lucky duck! I love flavored oils. Use them on meats, vegetables, salads, fruit, bread, etc. They are very expensive and a little goes along way. A sprinkle on vegetables instead of butter is wonderful. Yum!
1. I would pack well; place in an ice chest or insulated lined box with dry ice and overnight shipping.
2. The decoration is usually sour cream or whipped cream.
3. I do not use chocolate wafers instead use graham crackers or ginger snaps (lemon cheesecake).
Sara I just looked at your blog to see that you are in SF Bay area and I know there is a Whole Food Store there that does sell them. There are lots of upscale meat mks and gourmet groceries that make and sell them. We all enjoyed the turducken and it was good; however, if you expect it to taste...
Yes we have had a turducken for the last couple years at Thanksgiving. It is good and more interesting if you can select your own stuffings. For $20 I'd buy as many as my freezer would hold. Be sure to follow the directions for roasting. Carve with an electric knife as a carving knife will...
I would use butter. Cost was the factor in the 50s and 60s but butter has a better flavor and no transfat. Oleo is almost 50% wateer now and called spread.
A wonderful glaze for this time of year is cranberry sauce. You can use homemade or canned but very nice with ham. There are some gourmet mustards out that are flavored and a favorite of my family is the cranberry. Orange marmalade makes a wonderful glaze too. If you serve with biscuits, orange...
I have been making and dipping truffles for many years. You can use the same recipe for wht choc and milk choc. but use only 1 C cream or the centers will be too soft.
500 g bar of good bittersweet chocolate 60% or more... chopped
1 1/2 C heavy cream heated to boiling
Pour cream onto chocolate...
Sounds to me like the batter is one that is VERY THIN and probably should not be in a spring form pan. Does the recipe call for one? If the cake batter is thick than it would not be a problem and it is the pan. I would do as suggested and use foil or parchment on the inside of the pan as others...
I do not like brussel sprouts. They way veggies are prepared makes a vast difference to me. Some I like raw but not crazy about cooked i.e. cabbage, cauliflower, turnip... Some in the prep as creamed spinach.... length of cooking time, I cannot abide mushy veggies I like crisp tender...
Vagriller...
Not long ago a couple in Chicago were sent to jail for having a 12 yr girl in their household as a domestic.... no schooling and living in a slavery condition according to the media. I will not say the ethnicity of the family as they claimed she was "given to them" for training. A...
When I make ganache for truffles I always add some butter with the flavoring and use a good bar chocolate of 60% to 70% chocolate liq. never used chocolate chips. When making it for cakes, I omit the butter but not the flavoring. It is a wonderful frosting and very easy.
I might be interested if the museum would include ALL people who were slaves in the US. How about the Indians, Irish, Chinese, Mexican, etc., indentured servants, etc? Irish you might not know about but many women and children were sold by the British and transported to various places around...
Thanks Philso..... I can miss th experience of Kobe Beef. My son had it in Japan a few years ago and said he didn't feel it had much flavor compared to American beef. The price stops me when I see it advertised by some mail order speciality shops.
I am glad that I started this thread as you have all given me some wonderful ideas. Thanks.
I like raspberry vinegar for pickling beets; t gives a wonderful flavor. I use the pickling solution later to make a vinegarette for salad.
