    Wedding Gift Ideas?

Our daughter and son-in-law were married in May. They each had their own apartments (furnished, with help, at least our daughter's was) so needed very little, not to mention, combining two apartments into one isn't easy. They registered for a few items but what they really were happy to...

    Wings for 100

Got Garlic said it right. Never partially cook chicken. the bacteria in undercooked then reheated chicken multiplies. Any chance of storing the chicken drummies and wing-ettes in a refrigerator with a spicy dry rub, then pat dry and fry? Toss with a sauce and serve to order? A lot of work...

Anybody eat dinner? Sat. June 28, 2014

Everyone's meals sound and look delicious (thanks for the photos). We cheated tonight. Ordered a pizza from our small town mom'n'pop pizza joint that has been in business since 1976. We had an anniversary gift card from one of our daughters which made it even more special. Pizza and a...

    Ridin' the Rails

I've loved this ever since I first read it. It's titled "Life Is Like A Journey On A Train". It was then and is now a very thoughtful piece of writing. Thanks for bringing it to our attention again, it was beautifully written several years ago.

    3 questions about pizza.

CraigC, you're crass! What's wrong with me offering my opinion on what we like here? A daughter likes barbequed chicken pizza, wouldn't touch that either. Have it your way but we like pizza the way I mentioned. Pizza is Italian...and what do Italians like? Italian pizza. If you're...

Hi Sharon and welcome. What types of cooking do you prefer? Congratulations on retirement, best thing that can happen to a person that has worked hard for a long time.

    Disturbing the Peace

Leaf Blowers??? Oh, we must live on the same street. Every Sunday there is a man a few houses away that does nothing all day but blow leaves, wet leaves, leaves covered with snow, you name it, he's out there. When grass cutting time comes around, every Sunday again, around 9:30 a.m., out with...

    3 questions about pizza.

Pizza is supposed to be pizza. No fancy foods on it, just a lot of Italian spices, or a bit of sauce, some great cheese, maybe mushrooms and Italian sausage, add onions, peppers, a few other veggies and call it a day. It's no longer a pizza when other 'stuff' is added.

    Recipe Question

I also saw the Cook's Country episode showing the Chocolate éclair torte. As much as I trust Cook's Country for great recipes (and America's Test Kitchen) I'd never make their version, it looked to be too runny, prob'ly tasted great but I like a torte that an be cut and served. I also prefer...

    Disturbing the Peace

I spend time outside for the peace and quiet and the serenity and beauty of simply being outside, natural and natures sounds are why I'm out there. Toss wind chimes in that equation? They don't belong. Our across the street neighbors have wind chimes on their front porch. When the wind...

    Panko & Parm Asparagus

I saw this done on either America's Test Kitchen or Cook's Country, using the egg whites and panko crumbs. Looked interesting but.... Sorry, I also thought why they would cover the flavor of fresh asparagus at this time of the year. Love it steamed, also love to have it hit boiling water for...

    "Cooks Illustrated" - recommended?

I love America's Test Kitchen AND Cook's Country. They provide a free weekly e-mail, usually includes a video of a recipe. When possible I'll watch their show on Public TV and enjoy every one. I used to get the magazines of both but would run out of time before finishing so switched to their...

Woman eats pair of 72-ounce steak dinners -- in less than 15 minutes!!!

Got it! There's a contest for eating fast and a lot. Hmmm, OK, now it makes sense, doesn't matter what it is, just eat the most the fastest?? Dumb!

    ISO Beef Shank Recipes

I haven't cooked with them but I know they need a long slow braise and have a wonderful flavor and a lot of great tasting meatiness if done properly. If I recall correctly, Chef Anne Burrell did a recipe on Food Network using them and it looked great. I'm not a fan of TV food shows UNLESS the...

Woman eats pair of 72-ounce steak dinners -- in less than 15 minutes!!!

Mad Cook, the fascination is they love to get an award for eating the most the fastest and being shown on every TV station for 'wolfing' down their food. One of these days one of the contestants in one of these food 'pig-outs' is going to choke, and I'd bet the sponsor of the contest is going...

    Disturbing the Peace

I guess we're lucky, this city has noise restrictions. I can understand how annoying those sounds can be over those late hours. Any chance of petitioning the city council to bring about a noise ordinance and have it upheld by the police department?

"Cook It Right" - Different and Useful

I haven't heard of her but I sure will be checking to find out about her. Your post reminds me a lot of America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country TV shows on PBS stations. In the 30 minutes, they prepare two dishes and explain why they chose a certain preparation. I've learned it isn't just...

What do you do for hiccups?

Do what works best but have had a doctor say to put peanut butter on a teaspoon and eat it (if you're not allergic to peanuts). Have done that for them and for us for 35 yerars and works like magic.

    Eating out..

I think eating out is great!!! However, when in college (ummm, centuries ago) and working as a summer waitress I learned many things. Order what you want the way you want it served to you. If you want the dressing on the side, simply ask. Food allergy? , a chef will come to the table...

Product review: Emeril cast iron 10" square grill pan

Love BBB when using coupons also have many tucked in my car should I just have to do impulse shopping. Have found that many department stores also offer the same or even better specials when, but only when they offer spectacular 'special buys'. The best deal we've found at BB&B is when they...

You can Google the great roast pork recipe and find it without having to sign up. Simply type in... Cook's Country old fashioned roast pork recipe...and several versions (other than the Cook's Country site) will come up. The first two I saw were Food.com and Butteryum Blog Spot, there are...

7 Hour Pork Butt - Cooks Country TV show

The reason for the two day time period is because after cooking it the full time it must be refrigerated until the following day. It then slices easily and into nice large slices. I've made this a few times and it rally does work. Cutting it when hot and out of the oven wouldn't work. Yes...

7 Hour Pork Butt - Cooks Country TV show

I've made the cook's Country recipe for pork butt roast at least 3 times now and am about ready to do so again. Believe me, it is fantastic! Just have patience, it does take 2 days to make it perfect.
