Organizational tips for a Holiday Cookie Fundraiser needed!

I don't think there are any regulations in Indiana. We have bake sales often at church. We are doing it in a commercial kitchen NOT in peoples homes. We will be using household mixers. The kitchen is nice and big but only the ovens and one of the reach-ins are commercial equipment. No large...

Organizational tips for a Holiday Cookie Fundraiser needed!

I am in charge of a Christmas cookie fundraiser this year for our youth group at church. The youth did this several years ago but those leaders moved away and I don't have much back up information about how they did things. Many members of the congregation have requested this fundraiser again...

Does anyone know how to host a fish fry?

I'll try to answer these and the other questions posted. Equipment: We have a full commercial cooking kitchen in our banquet hall. Two full size deep fryers (I'm guessing using one for fish only and the other for fries or hushpuppies), we have chaffing dishes with racks, plates, etc...

Does anyone know how to host a fish fry?

Our church is considering hosting a fish fry on Good Friday. The problem is none of us have ever been part of the planning of one. Can anyone give us some instructions, tips, links to directions and recipes, etc? Sher

    Graduation party catering questions

Crown Point, NW Region If you belong to a warehouse club like Sams, check out the price on their mini croissants. I often buy those instead of the canned cresents. I think they're cheaper. Sher

Graduation Party/I need help with quantities?

There will be bowls of chips. I forgot to mention that before. Do you think I should have a "hot" vegetable? I wasn't planning on it since I have the veggie trays but now I'm wondering if I should have one...... Sher

    Graduation party catering questions

I think your menu sounds fun and different from the same menu party after party. I would stick with the nacho/taco bar idea. It will go over great with teens. What part of Indiana will it be in? I may have to stop by  Sher

Graduation Party/I need help with quantities?

My menu is actually one of the smallest of the parties I've been to over the past few years. It's crazy the amounts of food people put out. I will probably keep the pasta as dd really wants it but might drop the bbq pork. I'll drop the dinner rolls, they were kind of an afterthought anyway. I...

    Lasagna Sauce questions/problems

I'm making lasagna on the weekend for DH's bday. I'm making the sauce today and I'm trippling the batch because I'm making two pans of lasagna and we always like extra sauce. #1. The recipe called for a 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes. I picked up three cans without realizing that one of the...

What appetizer to serve w/lasagna & Garlic Bread?

Could I do this with puff pastry? I hate trying to work with phyllo. I like all the ideas, especially an antipasto platter. There will only be about 12 people and dinner will be buffet style and casual so I don't want to fill everyone up too much. Thanks for all the great ideas! Sher

What appetizer to serve w/lasagna & Garlic Bread?

Dh's 50th bday is next week and we're having his family over. I'm making lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. I was thinking of making mozzarella/olive/basil skewers for an appetizer but don't want to "cheese" everyone out since the lasagna is loaded with cheese. I need a couple of appetizer...

What's Indianapolis known for, food-wise? (merged)

I've lived in Indiana for 17 years and have never seen a pork tenderloin san at any restaurant around! We're near chicago and local favorites are pirogi (sp), pulled or bbq pork sans, lemon rice soup, and gyros. I have noticed corn is the big thing at church fishfry's and county fairs.

    Cruise Food

I've been on three cruises. One with Carnival and two with Royal Caribbean. The food was wonderful! The best food was at dinner time. They do try their best with the buffet's but even they were good at the snack hour of 3-5pm. I wish I had the recipe for their taco meat used for the nachos...

    Dream Dinners/Super Suppers

I went to one of these last week with my sister. It is called "Making dinner fun" in our area. There is also a competing place but it's a bit further away. We purchased 6 meals for $99.00. We were able to split the portions between the two of us at no extra charge. The description told us...

How to use different kinds of tomatoes?

I'm a bit confused about all the different kinds of tomatoes that are available. I follow my recipes with whatever kind they call for like diced, stewed, crushed, whole peeled, etc. Is there a certain formula or rule in cooking different types of dishes as to why you would use a certain kind...

    What is Dutch Process Cocoa?

I'm not much of a baker but this is what I'm making. In this month's WW magazine there are some holiday recipes. The two I plan to make are "Peppermint-Fudge Truffles" and "Chocolate-Hazelnut Meringues". The Truffles call for unsweetened cocoa powder, powdered sugar, cream cheese and...

    Frito Pie

Seems we call them "walking tacos" at our baseball/football concession stands. Slightly crush the fritos in the bag before opening, add taco meat, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion. and serve the bag with a fork and a napkin of course. Yum! The OP's recipe sounds good too. I never...
