I have a bunch of brownie recipes that I got from www.recipegoldmine.com. Here's one of them. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I might want to sub out the maraschino cherries with some dried cherries that have been soaked in cherry juice or water.
Black Forest Brownies
1 1/3 c flour
1 t baking powder
½ t salt
1 c butter
1 c unsweetened cocoa powder
4 eggs, well beaten
2 c granulated sugar
1 t almond extract
1 ½ t vanilla extract
1 c maraschino cherries, chopped
½ c walnuts, chopped
For the Icing:
¼ c butter, softened
1 t vanilla extract
2 c confectioners' sugar
6 T cocoa
¼ c milk
¼ c walnuts, chopped
Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Set aside. In a saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa until smooth. Blend in eggs, sugar and extracts. Stir in flour mixture, cherries and nuts. Pour into a 13 x 9” pan. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes. To make icing, blend butter, vanilla extract, sugar, cocoa and milk in a bowl until smooth. Spread on hot brownies. Sprinkle with nuts. Cool.
