I could never understand though why romaine lasts so much longer than iceberg in the fridge.
My parents always have an iceberg lettuce salad with supper. I grew up on it and HATE making salads when I am there because of the iceberg lettuce. It has very little nutritional value, no flavor, IMO, and I only buy it when it is cheap. I prefer leaf lettuce. But, iceberg lettuce does freeze well for use in soups, etc.
