What have you had for breakfast lately?

Returning to the theme of this thread.....I have discovered a more eggy way of making scrambled egg (on toast).

I know you can add an extra egg yolk but I find it makes little difference....maybe more than 1 egg yolk might but sounds extravagant for a breakfast. Instead of cracking 2 eggs into the pan, I just added 1 egg and the egg white of the other one. When the scrambled eggs were lightly done (how I like them), I then added the raw yolk into it and mixed it in. Result? Definitely the more eggy scrambled eggs I had been desiring! :yum:

Well, the theme of this thread is "What have you had for breakfast lately?"

I had a hard boiled egg and coffee this morning.

Yes, I guess I should have said I had garlic scrambled eggs on toast and then shared my discovery! :ermm:

With the hours I keep, I will be having breakfast around seven tonight. And it will be a quick soft scrambled eggs.

I took one of the leftover veggie burgers (raw), added some savory, sage, pepper to it and turned it into breakfast sausage, topped with one poached egg and a side of garden fresh green beans and steamed kale (in my world, kale is "breakfast of champions" food). No bun, no cheese, but the veggie burger turned breakfast sausage was very good. I didn't have time to do grains today--gotta get my butt in my office and get to work. Good thing I work from home--it is only a 10-second commute from the kitchen to my office.

I ran out of bread so had to resort to a deluxe kind of muesli. To an organic muesli base (with different rolled grains and some dried fruit), I added oatbran, chopped banana and organic sunflower seeds, dessicated coconut and dried apricots + milk (would have preferred natural organic yogurt). It was scrumptious! :yum:

Two poached eggs on a HUGE bed of steamed Chard (my feet were still wet from grabbing the chard from the garden--yesterday's egg, sigh, old eggs, but they were still good), a side of cargo rice topped with fenugreek sprouts....YUM.

SO has had a desire to make almond biscotti so I hunted up a recipe for her. It is an ATK recipe and I had DVRd the ATK episode where they made this biscotti. So we watched it Wednesday night and Thursday AM she whipped up a batch.

I'm sitting here with a cup of coffee making them disappear at an alarming rate. I suppose I should save her a few.

There are many medications that are affected by grapefruit. Warfarin and most commonly rx'd statins are just two of them.

"Drugs that interact with grapefruit are taken by mouth. The degree of the grapefruit effect can vary. With some drugs, just one serving of grapefruit can make it seem like a person is taking multiple doses of the drug.

This interaction can occur even if grapefruit is eaten many hours before taking the medication. For example, simvastatin, when taken with about a 7-ounce glass of grapefruit juice once a day for three days, produced a 330% greater concentration of the drug compared to taking it with water. This can cause life-threatening muscle damage called rhabdomyolysis."

But adverse reactions vary from patient to patient according to reports.

Grapefruit With Some Medications: Risky Business
Surprised about the connection with statins and Warfarin. My father was on it, with regular specialist checks and was never told not to eat/drink grapefruit.

Also, the grapefruit statin thing depends to a certain extent on the type of the statin according to my mother's doctor. There is a thing now in the UK where "they" are saying that everyone should be on statins regardless of whether they have any medical need for them. Seems a drastic waste of the NHS's money. Despite being over weight ad eating butter and eggs as if they are going out of fashion my cholesterol levels are very low. My old doctor reckoned it was because of the exercise I get with doing Horse's jobs. Or perhaps it's the French paradox - I drink red wine in moderation

It amazes me when I read what some of you eat for breakfast. It takes me all my time to eat a couple of slices of toast, butter and/or jam or a bowl of cereal. I can just about manage a "full english"* at about 11am as long as I have been up and about since 8am and have had about 3 cups of tea and a sit down and a think.

*A full english = Bacon and fried eggs, tomatoes, sausages, mushrooms, fried bread, baked beans (courtesy of Messrs Heinz et al), toast and marmalade, tea (or coffee) or any combination of the above. It requires a strong constitution to wade through that lot!

Needless to say, I only have this once in a blue moon.

It amazes me what people eat for supper. I eat my big meal in the morning--get it done. I was not a breakfast person until about 2 years ago (or is it 3)? Now that I eat breakfast, I don't eat nearly as much during the day and have shrunk 4 sizes. I like breakfast and what it has done for me. I quit coffee in 2007. Don't miss that caffeine hangover.

I was a bit greedy today and had a double breakfast, i.e. either one should have sufficed.

I bought some unusual artisan beetroot and apple bread (for the first time - quite good) so had it with Wensleydale and cranberry cheese (the shop was out of goat's cheese, my first choice). Works really well together.

Then I had what I had originally planned to eat - a slice of organic wholemeal bread spread with roule (garlic cream cheese) and topped with a little smoked salmon.
