Using bread machine for mixing

I've read (I think on this site) about using the bread machine for mixing meat loaf, etc. I'm making a fruitcake today and wondered if that would be too much work for a bread machine. I don't mind the other work, but mixing the fruits and nuts in really gets my arthritic hands.

I don't know about you're recipe - but if it is anything like what my grandmother used to make ... it's way too dense for a bread machine.

Licia,
I wouldn't. The reason being is that you don't want to activate the gluten in the flour. All the experienced people I've watched make fruit cakes, puddings etc keep mixing to a minimum. A bread machine (imho) would belt the heck out of it.

It's a good job for DH.
