We went to the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial today. It was a very sobering visit. While the tragedy of 9-11-01 has always been real in our hearts and minds, visiting the memorial and seeing the pictures of the people who died on that plane, and hearing their stories, brought it home even more. If you are ever in southwestern Pennsylvania, look for it off of US 30, east of Somerset, just north of I-70. They are hoping to start building the permanent memorial next year. We got there just as the park ranger was finishing her presentation to a large group. We waited awhile but she didn't do another one, so I asked her if there would be another one. It was almost time for her to go home, and it was hot, so she said she would do it just for us (about halfway through, a couple others joined us) inside the little building they had there. That was so nice of her! It was a very enlightening presentation. I am posting the pictures I took today. I hope to come back someday to see the permanent memorial. There are many symbolic elements to the planned memorial, which will be a real tribute. For instance, the pathway you will walk in on follows the path of the plane. The walls will be the height of the plane. There will be a 93' tower with 40 (# of passengers and crew) windchimes. They will call it the Tower of Voices because voices were so instrumental (voices calling home on their phones, voices on the voice recorders, voices of the passengers making a plan, etc.).

It was interesting to see how many people were there. It made me feel good that the people on that flight have not been forgotten. There were quite a few motorcyclists there. There were a couple guys who were particularly large and muscular. They hugged each other and said goodbye, then rode off. That touched me as well.

Also, there is something about that single name, "Debbie" that touched me.

It's funny what touches us Barb - I can see how that would! It is good they are not forgotten! The last thing my ex BIL said to me before he passed was "don't forget me...it scares me that I will be forgotten". I drive by his grave several times a day...it's just a couple hundred feet from our house...I always tell him "hi".

Aw man... tears are streaming down. Very touching. Barbara thank you for sharing these pictures with us. I for one will never forget.

That is awesome!! What a wonderful thing, not just to remember the lost, but, for the families to see how people will never forget them either.

Though it has skipped my mind from time to time, I don't think I could ever forget.

The first item of business when we bought our house, even before we moved in, was to put Old Glory outside our front door in honor of the fallen, the veterans, those serving now, and those yet to serve not just in the US Armed Forces, but in Emergency Services too (Police, Fire, EMS, 9-1-1/Dispatch).

Seeing these images immediately brought to mind one of the many great songs written in memory of that tragic day. Here's a link to the video.
