Over There

This is a story about the liberation of the Italy from Germany during the Second War:

Things were very difficult under the Nazi control of the country. We've all heard what went on, things unspeakle.

The turn of the end of fascinism arrived with you guys. The landings at
Anzio came swiftly and without warning.

You guys gave support, food, and. security

I'm talking because yesterday was the rembrance day of the Landings at Anzio, the Festa della Liberazione, and that was the turning point in the way in Italy's destiny and others also.

So you see why you may ponder on it, and why you're such a great nation.

I take my hat off for you.

Thank you. That was very kind of you.

That was my grandfather's generation. They made a lot of sacrifices for their fellow humans during the Great Depression and WWII. We are a lot more selfish today. I am a "Baby Boomer," and we have taken a lot more than we have given. A lot of us think we have "given" too much. Hopefully, the next generation will come to realize that, with great power, comes great responsibility."

We just had Anzac Day here 2 days ago, nz lost just under 3,000 soldiers at Gallipoli in the First World War. That's crazy, a small town in America?? My grandfather was a p.o.w in WWII . We are a lucky generation. The millenials are a worry however.

Very few people in the US have ever heard of Gallipoli. I knew a little about the history, but I have to confess that I did not know the story behind ANZAK day. I had to Google it.

Your President is coming to England very shortly. He will be honoured as a great President at a banquet and the USA. He will then be escorted as a great representive for your all your guys who came to rescue alongside the Brits. You guys liberated Italy and France i.e. the landanding in Anzio, close to Rome. It was you guys who liberated Rome, and it is said that you guys who brought food, amongst them the Carbonara, when the Nazis were retreating fleeing after the famous landing at Anzio.

You guys helped to evcuate millions of the people of Jewish descent, and they showed the way, in northern Italy, to find the rescue routes through the Alps.

There is an amazing film called 'La Vita č Bella', that defines how amazing you guys were, along with the British soldiers.

Then there are the landings in Normandy. Your President will also visit those places as well.

I can only say ' God bless America', because if it wasn't for you, Europe would be a different place.

God bless America
