ISO substitute for date sugar..

my wife wanted to make a dietetic dish for dad (I think it's a cake) but is hesistant to go out and look for date sugar. Is there a substitute? Could not find one on the internet. I guess date sugar is more like macerated pieces of dates. I would say to just use a bunch of equal or sukranot or splendora or however you sy it...

I really should locate the actual dish but I wanted to post it now before I forget. thx.
