Yes, that's the one taxy.
They had tons of the butter in about 3 big cold bins. I was there around 3pm and can't imagine them selling all that by closing time. I wonder if it will still be on sale for today or do they move huge amounts of extra to another store.
 
Not too long ago a local grocery store had frozen sea scallops on sale for $9.99 lb. On Wednesdays they have $10 off a purchase of $75 digital coupons, so I bought 5 one lb bags plus a few other items. Today I thawed half a bag and dried them out well, got a really nice sear and served them over a bed of homemade pasta with a lemon butter, wine, garlic, sun-dried tomato and cream sauce with fresh herbs and shaved parmesan cheese. Yummo.
 
That reminds me. I just noticed that I can get broken scallops for CAD 10.75 / lb. Yeah, we are supposed to be doing metric here in Canada, but it's common or grocers to write weights in big letters in lbs and ounces and in little letters in grams so 454 grams for Cdn$10.75. I'll have to figure out something easy to do with them. I have never cooked scallops before and most of these won't be "picture perfect". They are the scallops that got broken during shucking.

I buy those too! I soak, drain, and dry them, then sear them in butter and a bit of olive oil in their broken gloriousness, chopping them up with the spatula in more uniform pieces. I'll set them aside and sautee shrimp and/or fish in that pan as well, then set them aside in the same dish with the scallops. Then comes the garlic, shallot, red bell pepper into the pan with more olive oil. Toss that aside with the seafood, deglaze the pan with white wine, add some cream, put some cooked pasta, lemon juice and s/p in, then add the seafood back in. Top with fresh herbs on the plate.

Sounds easy enough and delicious. Why do you add shrimp or fish?
 
Today I bought 4 dozen jumbo pasture-raised brown eggs for $1.99 per dozen and some nice Danish blue cheese (4oz for $3.99). Total bill just under $12.

The grocery had Boston butt pork roasts on sale for $1.47 a pound. Searched for the smallest, which was just under eight pounds. Now I have eight containers of pulled pork in the freezer. Preparing the pork roast (trimming off the fat cap, rubbing, resting overnight in the fridge, cooking for seven hours or so in the slow cooker, then cooling and shredding) is time consuming, but hey, I'm not all that busy anyway!
 
Bit pathetic I suppose, but Sainsburys is doing a 3 for 2 offer on frozen petit pois so I bought 3 and gave one to my brother. :) Took me an age to work out if I'd got my 2 bags cheaper - but yes, my two bags cost £1.06 each instead of £1.60 - I just had to buy 3 bags to get the discount... think that works... maths was never my strong point! Anyway, I am just a lovely sister I guess, giving a free bag of peas to my brother! LOL

I also bought this at another store 5 minutes away from the store where I got the eggs.

In a way this is a great deal. Not necessarily on special.

Those huge Bok Choy's at my grocer's are priced from $1.29 to $1.99 each. I buy 1 and pull off an outer stalk (like you do celery) chop it up and use in various dishes from noodle or wonton soup, stir fry, anything I'm frying. Sometimes save part of the tops to use as lettuce in a sandwich. (I don't buy lettuce, just goes slimy on me).
One Bok Choy can last me a week or even two! depends on what I'm having.
$2.00 for greens for almost 2 weeks is a good deal in my books.
 
Groan, very jealous - our bacon is completely nuts.
For 300 gr (.66 lb) we can pay well over $7.00.
Here as well. When I see deals like that I stock up. I bought about 9 pounds of it.
 
So, out of curiosity, how does this compare with US prices for pork? £7.50 kg (which is $9.48 according to currency converter).

Grocery deals this week, 2 bags of peppers (red and yellow), each 99 cents. Oranges $4.99 for 5 lbs, and mandarins $2.99 for 4 lbs. Bananas, 2 bags of about 10 each, $1/bag. Collards $0.99/bunch for 4. 1.5 lbs brussels sprouts $1. Things not in the reduced area, broccoli, tomatoes, ww macaroni, wheat germ, cling wrap.
