I came across a recipe which contains banana ketchup.
I never heard of it before, and just assumed it was a brand name.
I did a little investigating and found out its a Filipino condiment made from bananas, sugar, vinegar, spices ... Apparently it was created around WWII when there was. a shortage oof tomatoes in he Philippines ( nt sure of the accuracy but read it somewhere).

Anyway, just curious if anyone has tasted it or frequently uses it, a description or comparison of what it tastes like and how or on what do you use it.

I love finding new things.

Ive purchased it at asian markets. Its not hard to find.

But it is hard to describe. Its probably made with unripe bananas, as it doesnt have a hugely strong banana taste. Its sweet, salty and vinegary and banana-ey. Consistency of ketchup. It was tasty, but odd.

Honestly, I really didnt know what to do with it, as I didnt make much Filipino food then (I do know).

I know that this reply isnt helpful... My recommendation is to buy some and see for yourself.
