2 poached eggs on a bed of steamed Swiss Chard, a side of steamed rye, sliced garden tomato and some homemade kimchee. Seltzer with some apple cider vinegar to drink.
I've been on a steel cut oat & fruit kick. Blueberries, peaches, strawberries, bananas, cherries, plums, of course raisins. The only one that hasn't worked so far was pomegranate. Those little pits inside the seeds were a nuisance. but pomegranate juice and blueberries work real well. It may sound odd but as I'm writing this I decided to try adding creamy peanut butter to oats. I'm sure it's been done, but I haven't heard of it.
Breakfast today combined some of my favourite things: poached eggs from the Girls, steamed Kale from the garden, the rest of the steamed rye, and a big glass of beet-carrot-mango-apple juice (beets, carrots, and apples from the garden, mango because I cleaned the crisper and found that mango I'd forgotten about...). The Girls love the pulp when I'm done juicing (I do it outside on the deck in case I get beet juice on anything). I added some of the carrot tops just for fun. Still have 1 glass left. I doubt it will hang around very long. Love beet + anything juice.
I had cherries and pomegranate seeds that needed to be used up so I juiced (crushed and strained) the pomegranate and added the juice and cherries to steel cut oats. It was soupy and fruity, just like I like it.
I realised I'm not making oatmeal anymore. It's become fruit stew with oats.
Well breakfast was brunch....at a wonderful, huge wholefoods store. (Has everything from bread, ice cream, fresh pressed juice mixtures, hot food, groceries, meat, fish, vegetables, deli etc).
I had the "roast" dinner of roast pork (generous but a little dry), "roast" potatoes (deep fried), mixed veg and good gravy.
Will be just having a king prawn baguette this evening - with an avo.
Breakfast today is brunch--steak, fresh corn from the garden, and beans from the garden. I still have to go out and pick before heading back to the City, but I picked enough for breakfast/brunch.
We have a little nicer breakfast on Sunday morning, so we had poached eggs on homemade bread toast, fried hog jaw, icy cold orange juice and coffee. Doesn't seem like much but I feel stuffed.
Sunday is always the day Steve makes his specialty...Toasted "everything" bagel, spread with cream cheese, dotted with capers, thin sliced lox, topped with thin white onion slice and a slightly salted tomato slice.
I had never had "bagels and lox" before I met him. Now, I always look forward to Sunday breakfast.
Today I had a leftover Greek meatball patty in a pita pocket with sliced cucumber and Roma tomato from the garden and homemade tzatziki. I was still hungry, so I toasted some sliced French bread and topped it with more cucumber and tzatziki. Yum!
