Boston, MA - any local intel?

IIRC, the Freedom Trail goes by a couple cemeteries with famous people buried in them.

I just rooted some store bought Lemon grass, question on when to plant

I don't think four months is enough time for lemongrass to grow and spread into several stalks. Like I said, it's a tropical plant and its life cycle is four years. It's meant to be in the ground in hot temperatures for much longer than a few months. I'm not sure what video you're referring to...

I just rooted some store bought Lemon grass, question on when to plant

How old was it when you dug it up? I'm guessing it wasn't old enough to harvest. Are what two different plants?

I just rooted some store bought Lemon grass, question on when to plant

It's a tropical plant, so it does best in a hot, wet environment. I had one in my herb garden several years ago. It grew to about 4 feet tall and wide and had several stalks. Its life cycle is about 4 years. It shaded my other herbs too much, so I moved it to a pot on the patio. How long did...

Boston, MA - any local intel?

DH and I spent a long weekend in Boston about 20 years ago. We stayed in a B&B in an old house in a beautiful neighborhood. I don't remember the name of the neighborhood, unfortunately. It was just outside the city center and we took a bus downtown. We did the Freedom Trail, ending up at an...

What did you eat Wednesday, April 24, 2024?

Maybe you could add some unsalted chicken broth or cream, cut up the fettuccine, and turn it into a soup.

What's for dinner, Ruby Tuesday April 23, 2024?

DH brought home a spaghetti meal he got at a local restaurant. We shared it - it was huge and there's a lot left! - and I made salads.

    What Are Your Other Interests?

Hee hee, I was the opposite. I took several rolls of film pictures at my brother's and my cousin's weddings in 2000 and I was so disappointed at how dark and blurry they were, I took a photography class at the local community college. We had to develop the film ourselves. The longer the class...

When I look up "bone plates," I get things that are used to set bone fractures. That's not what you're talking about, right? 🤣 Please post some pictures of yours.

What did you eat on Monday, April 22, 2024?

DH had a treatment yesterday, so just cereal and ice cream for dinner. I had spanakopita and stuffed grape leaves with labneh from the Mediterranean grocery store and a salad.

Kitchen "Candy" ~ Or, Look What I Just Got!

Some time back, DH bought me this half-size Pullman pan after seeing me reading an article in Cooks Illustrated about Japanese shokupan bread. Yesterday I finally made it (below left). It didn't rise quite enough to fill the pan, but it's tasty. I put half in the Pullman pan and half in a...

    Greetings from Finland

Hi and welcome to Discuss Cooking :) My husband was an exchange student in Finland in the late '70s. He really enjoyed it, although he jokes about getting tired of having potatoes at every meal. He once asked the host mother to make a pizza and guess what? She put potatoes on it! 😁 We look...

    Finally bought a bench scraper

I hate getting those sticky bits on the counter, so many years ago, before I got my scraper, I started doing stuff like that on my Silpat. It's much easier to clean that in the sink than off the counter.

    Garden 2024

The green parts are definitely leaves and should be planted facing up. Remember that the green color comes from chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis. The roots are white. Also, iris rhizomes should be shallow-planted. A little of the rhizome should be just visible under the soil.

    PEI Mussels vs. well, Mussels

There was something like that behind a new school that was under construction near one of the neighborhoods where we lived when I was 10 or so. And same - this was in Michigan and I don't know whether they were edible. Now that I think about it, we probably would have eaten them if they were...
