I made pita bread for the second time yesterday (the first time wasn't very successful). Some poofed in the oven more than others, but they taste great.

Baked a batch of bagels yesterday as a house warming gift for my daughter. More baking tomorrow. . .

All the talk (kand photos) about cherry clafoutis got me wanting to try it. Also, it's been in the back of my mind since I saw Jacques Pepin make one many years ago.

So I whipped one up this afternoon and we just polished off a couple of slices for dessert.

I think it was a little overcooked, and delicious.

Tasty little treat, isn't it, Andy? It looks pretty, too. IF you had any left when you went to bed, it makes a perfectly decent breakfast. You have your eggs, fruit, and a bit of carbs (flour). I see no problem with that kind of breakfast.

I have a collection of nectarines in the fridge. With PF mentioning that she might make a clafoutis with the plums her Mom gave her, I've been thinking that nectarines might be yummy. Then again, I've been busy stuffing them in my face right out of hand. :yum:

I made these before and took them
to our Communities Craft & Bake Sale last Fall,
and had them on my mind of late.

I got a dozen cupcake sized muffins

001.jpg

004.jpg
... plus 2 Jumbo Muffins

002.jpg
DH sampled this one for the team,
"MMM, that's really good! Did you make this before?"
moi: yes, but you didn't get any :stuart:

I kinda sort-a follow this recipe for Morning Glory Muffins

https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/morning-glory-muffins-recipe

I used regular AP Flour, dried Cranberries (don't care for Raisins), a little shy on the Brown Sugar and added 2 Tbsps Molasses, sub the Walnuts for Pecans, leave out the wheat germ/sunflower seeds and use Pineapple Juice rather than OJ and throw in a 1/2 C of crushed Pineapple too...

Yeah, like I said, kinda-sorta following the recipe

I made these GF and sold those as well at the Club House and they did very well!

On a whim I decided to make a loaf of sandwich bread. First time. I used the KA recipe for classic sandwich bread. We'll find out later how it tastes. Not sure why it is lopsided. Probably didn't shape it for the pan properly.

Andy, it baked that way so everyone can tell it was homemade for sure! ;)

K-Girl, glad you followed that recipe just the way your heart (and tummy) told you to. I'd ask for one, but I like raisins better than cranberries in my morning glory muffins.

I made bread yesterday. 1/3rd rye flour and 2/3rds extra-strong bread flour (ie hard wheat flour which is "stronger" than your "All Purpose flour) made two "tin" loaves and 8 large soft rolls. Some rolls already eaten with my lunch-time soup today. This was originally home-made vegetable curry but when I got it out of the freezer I fancied soup more than cooking rice, so mashed it up and called it soup. Not bad at all.

I've made bread since I was in my teens and it was a god-send when I was teaching and got home after a hard graft at the chalk board with pupils that I would be ashamed to own up to if they were mine. All that kneading is balm for the soul - very soothing.

I wasn't in a temper yesterday so I did the bulk of the kneading in the stand mixer :chef:

Andy, one end is for your sandwiches and the other end is for your SO’s sandwiches.

I made rhubarb pie last week, not my best effort so there will be another this week. Made gingerbread cake night before last and just prepped the monster cookie dough. Need a bit of a sit down though. It’s been a crazy day!

Only my second attempt at Cheesecake.

(I put these pieces in the deep freeze for another time)

I used Martha Stewart's recipe.
https://www.marthastewart.com/332755/new-york-style-cheesecake
I got two 9inch cakes the first time I made it..
005.JPG.
This Turtle Cheesecake was for the 2015 New's Eve party next door in our old neighborhood, it was excellent!!
This time I went with just plain, but halved the recipe.
I took 2 very large slices next door to The Boys and then one to Miss Neighbor-Across-The-Street... nice Sunday dessert to share :)

My Jeannie seldom ventures into the business end of the kitchen..

Once or twice a year she bakes a cookie we all love.. She did so yesterday..
This recipe was given to her by a neighbor when she was a newlywed..

They are not very photogenic but, they are really good.. Nice and crunchy.

Bird Seed Cookies
Mix together:
4 eggs
1 1/2 C Crisco
2 C Sugar
Add:
1 TBS Anise extract
4 C Flour
3 tsp baking powder
Mix together until dough is workable. If a little soft, add a little flour, if hard, add a little water.
Roll into ropes 1/2" in diameter, 1 ft long.
Put a layer of Sesame Seeds on the board and roll dough ropes in the seeds.
Cut into 2" pieces and bake @ 350 until light brown, about 15 minutes.

The recipe was typed out on a 3X5 card Jeannie has had for 50+ years..

Those look interesting, Ross. Himself loves sesame seeds. Me, not so much. Did you put this recipe in the Cookie subforum to make it easy to find?

I had peaches on the counter that kept tickling my nose with their sweet smell, so I turned them into a crisp. I made too much topping, though, so I guess I'll just have to do this again soon.

And yes, do post her recipe in the Cookie Forum!

Did I mention this already? I'm not sure, I don't think I did,

BREAKFAST!!

006.jpg
sure look pretty! but ...

MEH :glare: Not so much, they, were just okay,
but I'd rather have a scratch made-heavier-dense Muffin ...

Thanks for this. I'd like to have a go but a couple of queries.

1) Could I use butter in place of Crisco as we don't have it here?

2) Our flour is different to yours so I'd probably use self-raising flour - would this work?

1) Jeannie has never used butter so, she isn't certain..I did find this in a Google search:
What is Crisco shortening in the UK?

Vegetable shortening is a white, solid fat made from vegetable oils. In the UK it is sold under the brand names Trex, Flora White or Cookeen. In the US Crisco is the best known and there is also an organic solid vegetable shortening made by Earth Balance.

2) Again, she has not used any but AP flour so, not certain..
Sorry... :)
