Some things are just not meant to be eater. Meat food "product" is one of those things.

That may be so, but it's close enough in looks, texture (including gelatin - ugh!) and flavor that not even spicy brown mustard can disguise it into fooling my stomach that it's something edible!

(I know, it's not THAT bad... but are too many GOOD things to eat that give me a smile rather than a puzzled look.)

My favourite potted meat sandwich: good fresh bread, rillettes (admittedly one up from Libbys) and thinly sliced gherkins (preserved in vinegar).

Things like potted meat are horses for courses. To stir up a bit of controversy, I didn't find the photo of pulled pork in a recent thread all that appealing. On the visuals alone, it didn't look like it would pass my "don't eat anything someone else looks like they've had a go at first" test. But that's only because I've never seen it before (I guess it's a US phenomenon).

Armour Star: Mechanically separated chicken, beef tripe, partially defatted cooked beef fatty tissue, beef hearts, water, partially defatted cooked pork fatty tissue, salt, and less than 2 percent: mustard, natural flavorings, dried garlic, dextrose, sodium erythorbate, and sodium nitrite.

Are you kidding me!?!?

I eat Kosher dogs (Nathans skinless are my favorite) because they taste better than the bologna-in-a-skin crap.

The fact that they're also made of identifiable beef parts, not "mechanically separated pork" (because it's illegal to use "mechanically separated beef") is just a bonus...
