What are you doing?
I thought I'd start a thread about nothing (ala Seinfeld ).
I know there are times I do something and have no one to share it with, no matter how mundane. And I don't do the FB thing, all though I certainly get spammed enough from them. Probably from someone's email list that I'm on
So if you join in fine, if you read along fine, if you put this thread on your ignore list, well that's fine, too
So tonight I'll be "doing" this.
I found this sucker under the eave of my chicken coop when I went to check on their water. I'm lucky I didn't bump the coop with the lawn mower earlier today It's quite active, but I'm hoping to deactivate it after it gets dark

Up in Canada, we knock those suckers off with a hockey stick and run like hell.
Tonight I will put my Paella on hold again until tomorrow. I am driving my 13 year old daughter in to town to go to the movies with a boy. That's right! An official date! I have to wait in town for a few hours until the movie is over.
The silver lining is that I get to go to a Thai restaurant and have some hot and sour soup for supper while I am waiting.

We used to knock them into a metal trashcan with a tight fitting lid that had some kerosene or lighter fluid in it. It may sound cruel but it is better than having some kids get tangled up with them.

Oh yeah Rock?
Well down here we knock 'em off with our ARs and don't run!

Seriously, I'm going to hit it with dust and try to kill them off that way. It might take a couple/few nights, but it would be safer than me trying to knock it off and capture it myself.
And gee, ya aren't even going to sneak back in and sit in the back row?

>>hit it with dust and try to kill them off that way.
we call them paper wasps altho I'm given to understand they're properly a hornet. no matter, I'm not especially allergic to stings but those rascals really zap me - the sting area swells up for days - as in "mah' whole foot!"
I use the aerosol Wasp and Hornet killer - has a thin stream and good 'stand-off distance' - you can 'soak' the entrance and it'll rub off on as they come&go - usually takes two 'attacks' but on such a little one (oh yeah - we've had some gigantic ones! - 18-24" size) you might get it with one.

Just the picture is enough to give me the willies! I am very allergic (read that anaphalytic shock) to wasps (and most likely bees), the DH has to deal with those. I don't know how he does it, I stay inside until I get the "all clear." I actually got our neighbour to move his bee keeping hives to the back 40 because the cows were knocking them over and the bees were swarming our house in the city.
My DH knows that if there is a wasp nest anywhere near the house or barn, it is a "code red" priority and can't be left for another day. Funny, when you know a sting from something the size of a wasp can kill you, the "fear factor" goes way up. If one is in the house, I lose it. (Then I go outside until the monster is dead). And, you would not want to be a passenger while I'm driving if one ends up in the car. I am usually quite calm in a crisis, but not when one of those is buzzing after me.
We went to Niagara Falls, ON one year. Stopped at the gardens for a picnic. The wasps were crawling on my lips, in my ears, I was petrified. I didn't move. I think I stopped breathing. It was horrible.
I have four epi pens--one at each house and one with me at all times. And yes, I wear my bracelet. Funny thing about anaphylactic shock, if you experience it once, you never want to experience it again. And, you'll never see a recipe from me with pine nuts in it--the other thing that could kill me. Maybe that should be would kill me...the local fire, ambulance, and fire departments know of my allergies and know that I need my epi pen. Ironically, my cousin shares the wasp allergy with me. He works in Alaska tracking bears. Talk about living dangerously. I get really ugly reactions to black flies, mosquitoes, deer flies, and horse flies. It is a wonder I go outside at all in the summer.

I use the spray on the higher up ones, dc, or the ones that are just starting out with half a dozen hornets and everyone is exposed. The drione dust I have really works well on a nest, including ground nests and behind the siding nests. I deal with these things all summer long and can't believe this one escaped my notice until today.
