I usually use standard buttercream recipe for cakes, etc, without any problems. At times I would like one that you can pipe easy but isn't as sweet as a buttercream.
Trying out some new tips I got, here is my experimental cake I made for the hubie. Which makes the cake really sweet. By the way the spikes that are at the bottom of the cake, they are the design in the glass plate it is on. I am not a great decorator, but I am working at it.

That looks lovely... :)

I have to believe that I'm the very worst at frosting a cake.. I wouldn't EVEN try to pipe rosettes or anything else..

I bake my share of "taste, don't look" cakes.. :ROFLMAO:

Find a cream cheese recipe that you would like. The sweetness is on the low side. I no long make buttercream frosting due to the sweetness. Every time I make it, I can't stop eating, eating, eating it! I am lucky if I have just enough for the cake. Even Pirate loves it. The following is a five star recipe.

Genius Kitchen recipe is a five star recipe.

AllRecipes has one but only 4 1/2 stars.

The following is from Kraft Cream Cheese

The cream cheese cuts the sweetness of the frosting. Once you make it, you will never go back to buttercream frosting.
