Why not? It is used in meatloaf also. And it is a recommended grain for diabetics.

I guess that's a good way to get some oatmeal in my diet. I've bought some, but just stall about making it. I just never did like the way it looks - gray gruel.

That's what I did today!
My meatballs are far from tasteless though
I make up a big batch of
equal amounts ground beef, veal and bulk Hot Italian Sausage
a handful of homemade bread crumbs (it's better than that stale stuff)
a little milk to moisten
a beaten egg
a handful of grated Parm
dried Oregano
minced garlic
minced fresh Flat leaf Parsley
S&P

I use a 1 1/2 Tbsp disher, scoop them out onto a foil lined sheet pan
half some of the balls for make smaller ones for soup
(or in today's case soup and Baked Ziti with mini meatballs)
I IQF them of sorts in my chest freezer and then once solid masses,
I put them into a ziptop freezer bag for later use
