Definition of "cream together"

I am barely learning how to make red velvet cake and in the directions it said to cream together the butter and sugar, what does cream together mean?

It just means to stir (if using soft butter...or use a blender or mixer if your butter needs to be firm) them together until you have a creamy texture, you know, like soft serve ice-cream.
