This is one of my favorite candies to make around Christmas.
Triple Treats Candy
1-11½ oz. package (2 cups) chocolate chips
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1- 14 oz. package caramel candies
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons water
1-cup walnut pieces
Line an 8-inch square pan with foil and grease the foil with vegetable shortening. Melt chocolate chips and vegetable shortening over hot (not boiling) water in a double boiler. Pour half of the melted chocolate into 8-inch pan; spread evenly. Place in the refrigerator until firm (about 15 minutes). Return the remaining chocolate mix to low heat. Melt caramels with butter and water over low heat, stirring until smooth. Stir in walnut pieces until well blended. Pour into chocolate lined pan. Spread evenly. Refrigerate until tacky, about 15 minutes. Top with remaining melted chocolate. Spread evenly to cover caramel filling. Return to refrigerator and chill 1 hour. Cut into 1-inch squares. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
