I am so mad at my supermarket

I was in my supermarket (Stop and Shop) the other day and walked by where the fresh fish counter used to be. It had been replaced with a small refrigerated section that had pre-packaged plastic wrapped fish in Styrofoam trays. I found someone who worked there and asked what happened. She got this look on her face like I was the 10,000th person to ask that day. The life drained out of her as she explained that every single Stop and Shop store was doing the same thing. I told her what a horrible move it was and she agreed and said I was the 10,000th person to tell her that today, but that Stop and Shop was not going to change their mind on this one. Talk about a horrible business decision. More and more people are watching FoodTV where all the TV chefs talk about how you should never buy fish like that. I am so disappointed in Stop and Shop.

GB, I feel your pain. We live in an area that has almost no fresh fish/seafood and I depended on the rather large fish market at one of our largest Wal-Marts to provide. I could even get monkfish, which is a favorite of ours.

A couple of years ago, they renovated the area and took out almost all of the fresh fish department. We're now reduced to a paltry fresh section and a mediocre frozen section.

lol...GB, i'm gonna bump this thread later with some pictures of some fresh salmon i bought today.

I didn't know it was possible for salmon to look this good. It's called sockeye salmon and it was flown in fresh today.

Well luckily I have a fantastic fish market down the street, but I can only get there on weekends because they close right around the time I get home from work.

holy cow GB, that's the most horrible thing ever! the only time i buy fish like that is if the store itself is packaging it for sale quantities (i.e., the store has a special that week on catfish and has packaged a big batch of it fresh that day so you can just grab & go). hopefully, there's another place to shop somewhere near you that keeps more convenient hours than your fish market. look around for an asian grocer in your area...almost all of them i've ever been to, even the tiny ones, have a great fresh fish section.

I stopped shopping there when they merged with A&P. Stop and P, just not the right jingle....

We rarely shop at Stop and Shop as alltheir prices are higher than other chains. The one we go to from time to time in NH had the smelliest fish counter I've been to. Never bought any fish there.
