House will smell great!!.

not freezer related but i was in CVS drugstore today and found 5 pound bags of flour for $1.25 so i bought 8 of them :pig:

oh yeah, the reason i went there were for the eggs, .77 a dozen for large. eggs seem to be really high right now, i like to buy the jumbo size and cant find them for less than $1.69. i ended up getting 6 dozen of the large to tide me over.

For most of my life I've had a small chest freezer and really often had no idea what was in the bottom of it. Since moving here I put off buying a new one, and while it does get a little crowded, the freezer on top of my fridge seems to be enough for us. I don't entertain on quite the scale I used to, and no longer live near my (large, extended) family, so really don't need as much as I used to. The fridge is not near a water source, so I need many trays of ice cubes. I've a few "diet" pizzas for quick lunches, several bags of frozen vegetables. A couple of steaks, a few pork chops and one pork tenderloin. Some frozen chicken wings. Several servings of stock, soups, stews, chili that I make from time to time. Some pesto, harissa, thai-style curry. It is amazing what I can fit in that little freezer.

My freezer is so full, I have noidea what's there.

This is my situation exactly. Sometimes I think I must have a psychological disorder that makes me keep the freezers so full I can't tell heads or tails what is there. I know there are lots of different meats, even deer sausage which our sil keeps saying he will take and give us more room...lots of veggies, fruits, desserts, you name it. I'd show a picture, but I'm ashamed for anyone to see it.

My pantry is almost as bad. I need counseling!

beef shell steaks
pork spare ribs
3 pork loin roasts I cut down from a whole pork loin
butters
AP flour
rye flour
whole wheat flour
soy flour
yeast
hand of ginger
cranberries
pecans
almonds
walnuts mixed veggies
baby peas
spinach
bottom round roast
eye round roast

all meats were on sale from between .99 to 4.49.

I am sure there are a few other odds and ends in there.

Besides food preservation the small freezer I have does double duty as a cat feeder. Another reason to not know what's in there.

I have two freezers. The chest freezer is pretty full at the moment.

10 lbs striploin steaks
12 lbs ground beef
6 kgs chicken breasts
3 (10lb+) chickens
2 packages pork steak
several bags of chopped rhubarb
3-4 bags of carcasses for soup
3 lbs butter
2 standing rib roasts
lord knows how many freezies
3 4L pails ice cream (vanilla, chocolate and neopolitan)
1 2L Breyers triple chocolate
bag of king crab legs
bag of shrimp

upstairs freezer

2 bags of perogies
assorted bags of frozen veggies
1 bag frozen raspberries
1 bag frozen blueberries
1/2 bag of mixed berries
3 lbs butter
2 lbs farmers sausage
1 sirloin tip roast
2 pkgs chicken thighs
assorted frozen juices
crumb mix (my own)
1/2 bottle of vodka
1 mickey of gin
4 ice cube trays
2 ice packs (medical type)

Probably some weird stuff jammed to the back or bottom that is as yet undiscovered but that about does it.

1 goose
3 ducks
40 pounds of SC shrimp
chicken
frozen veggies
a bag of something I think I better toss (mystery bag?)

my local super market has red snapper for $2.99 a pound but i just bought enough to eat, dont really like freezing fish.

My grandmother used to freeze fish in water and said it tasted fresh when defrosted. It takes a bit more room but she always had good fish.

yeah thats what my dad does too and it seems to work ok.

Since this thread started I decided to only eat from the freezer until I had it down to a managable level. We've been eating a lot of chicken, ham and hamburger. It's still pretty full. However, it's been saving on my weekly food bill!

we re-stocked so there's 4 or so boxes of pierogies, i'm freezing leftover broth from a roast beef tonite, there's potstickers, gorgonzola gnocci, cheese ravioli, pork, & veggies too.

I have kind of been dreading getting a chest freezer because I just know that eventually I'll end up accumulating mystery meats and UFOs (Unidentified Frozen Objects) that I'd have to toss out.

So right now I have two upright fridges:

The top freezer of the first fridge is reserved for neutral-smelling items:

Soups
Stocks
Ice creams
Breads
Tortillas
Springroll wrappers
Butters
Flours
Nuts
Frozen berries
Limoncello

My other fridge is a side-by-side double door. The freezer section is organized by shelves/drawers into:

Frozen homemade baked goods
Frozen home-cooked food like stews, spaghetti sauces, etc.
Frozen home-made pesto, shawarma sauce, etc.
Frozen veggies
Store-bought processed food like sausages, fishballs, etc
Poultry (whole, marinating parts)
Seafood (soft shell crabs, New Zealand mussels, fish fillets, cuttlefish, shrimp)
Pork (various parts)
Beef (various parts)

This way, with one look at my freezers, I can do a quick inventory before going on a replenishing run to the super.

We live in an apartment and just have the fridge freezer. We have come close many times in getting a freezer, but there just isn't enough room. In my freezer at the moment there is...

-lunch meat (bologna, ham, turkey pastrami)
-wheat english muffins
-1/2 of a lemon tea cake
-2 or 3 pineapple crumb bars
-soft pretzels
-lumpia (from a neighbor)
-2 supreme french bread pizzas
