Where to eat/What to do while in New Orleans

Hi All! The wife and I flew to the big easy this morning and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places we should eat at or go see. We'll be here through Sunday mid day. Went to Acme Oyster House for lunch. Hoping to head to Oceana for dinner. Thanks in advance.

Chiefs tailgate - chuck eyes and taters

First game my wife and I went to this year. We sold/donated our tickets in order to spend more weekends with our 15th month old son. Last year we didn't go very often. We wanted to keep them so we decided to sell some off. Anyway, to keep things simple we just did some chuck eyes and fried...

    Turkey for work

We had a food day last week and I volunteered to smoke a turkey as long as I could work from home. The boss agreed. Brined with salt, brown sugar and apple juice for 8 hours. Smoked at 250* with Royal Oak lump for heat and apple and hickory for flavor. The bird was 19.87lbs. Outside was coated...

    Briskets, Butts & More

Getting one last big cook in for the year. Smoking briskets, butts, ribs, chicken and pork chops for friends, family and co-workers. It's fun to do, plus it gets me more time to practice this art of BBQ. Fired up the smoker last night just after 5PM, hoping to be done with everything by 4ish...

Ribeye Philly Cheese Steak and fingerling french fries

I've been MIA for the most part as the summer months have gotten busy, but haven't quit cooking. Put together this cheese steak sammie. I thought over cooking the sliced ribeye would make it more tender, but I was wrong. Next time, I'm sticking to medium rare! Had some fingerling potatoes...

Clams, teriyaki chicken and fingerling potatoes

Trying to cook a lot of the things I've seen on here over the past few months. Started with clams. Took a bit of effort to open the darn things (only stabbed myself with the butter knife I was using twice  ), made a butter, minced garlic & cayenne pepper mixture, cooked on the grill...

Chuck eyes, asparagus and grilled romaine

Spotted some chuck eyes at the new grocery store nearby. Remembered seeing a post that ScottyDaQ did about a year ago about chuck eyes and wanted to give them a try. Seasoned with kosher salt, black pepper and Tone's steak dust. Cooked mine to medium rare using the reverse sear method. It had...

Prepping for a KC Royals tailgate

This past weekend I fired up the smoker to cook pork butts for a K.C. Royals tailgate party my wife and I throw each year. It keeps getting bigger and bigger. This year we have 85 folks joining us for the tailgate and 78 going into the game!!! It's a lot of fun. Knowing I was going to fire up...

Honey Chipotle Ham and Mashed Potatoes

I had a honey chipotle rub/glaze in the cupboard that needed to be used. It had a nice bite to it, but because it's a ham that bite was only on the outside pieces. It's hard to beat a bone-in ham regardless how it's cooked. "Cooked" this on the grill with a chunk of apple. Took about 3 hours...

Grilled pork chops and grilled salad.....yummy!

I was trying a couple of things out in regards to grill placement on the chops and ended up charring two of them a bit more than I would want. Temp wise they didn't get over 158, so I know they're still juicy. Talked the wife in to having a grilled salad with dinner as well a la Pattio Daddio...

7th Annual Smokin' in the Creek BBQ Cook-off, Sugar Creek MO

Cooked with a buddy of mine this past weekend in Sugar Creek, MO. It was a KCBS comp and it was his second ever. I've been helping him get into competing this year and it's been quite the learning experience for me too. I've never had to do boxes before, until these last two comps. It's a lot...

    BBQ Marathon...or so it felt!

I had an engagement free weekend, so I thought it'd be fun to fire up the smoker and play around a bit. The one thing I was most excited about was trying out some chicken lollipops! They were labor intensive, but worth it. All the neighbor kids LOVED them. They were asking about them the next...

    Jucy Lucy Wrap

The wife wanted burgers and after seeing ScotyDaQ's "Jucy Lucy" post I had to give it a try. I've stuffed burgers with japs before, but never really thought about cheese.   Grilling was out of the question due to the weather, so I had to fry them. The good thing, I...

Italian Suasage Fajitas...and then the leftovers

This really wasn't the plan, but I decided to be a bit creative with what we had in the fridge and the wife agreed. She didn't want to have the recipe she bought the ingredients for and with her agreeing, off I went... We both were happy with the results. One thing that's nice with these...

Couldn't hold off the steak craving any longer, so... Asked the wife to pick up a butternut squash while she was at the store. Secret Santa's Suckle Busters Chili!
