Cake Boss Recipe Question

I am trying to find a cake recipe like the cake boss uses, but the sponge cakes I am finding don't look like the cakes that he makes. Does anyone know of another term for the cake that he uses. It looks to me to be just a regular cake that is a little more springy. I would love to try my hand at decorating a cake, but don't know where to begin with this sponge.

I believe he makes Genoise, which is an Italian sponge cake...
