I do a separate load for kitchen cloths, towels, shelf liner that I use under cutting boards and men's handkerchiefs that I use in place of cheesecloth for straining. I add bleach and omit fabric softener as it reduces absorbency.

Same here, though I don't use fabric softener in other loads of laundry anyways.
