CRAP !!

stops along the turnpike road from London to Birmingham and North Wales were
the Cock Inn and the Bull Inn at Stony Stratford. These two establishments
were noted for the exchange of gossip, possibly quite unfounded, between
passengers and drivers, which, when passed on further, became known as cock
and bull stories.
