TRUTH !!
Gene Pitney put 16 top 40 hits on the US Billboard Top 100 charts (22 in the
UK, including 10 top ten) in the 1960s. Among those were "Town Without Pity"
and "It Hurts to be in Love." His biggest hit, however, was "Only Love Can
Break a Heart," which missed number one because "He's a Rebel" by the
Crystals, which Pitney wrote, occupied the top spot. He also penned many
other hit songs including "Hello Mary Lou" for the Everly Brothers and "Red
Rubber Ball" for Bobby Vee.
