ANISE COOKIES

3 Eggs
1 C Sugar
1 Oz Anise Extract
¾ C Shortening
½ C Milk
¼ tsp Salt
4 tsp Baking Powder
3 C Flour

Beat the eggs and sugar together.

Blend in the anise, shortening and milk.

Separately combine the salt, flour and baking powder together, and combine with the eggs and sugar mixture.

Drop teaspoon-sized portions of the dough onto a cookie sheet.

Bake in a 350 F oven for 8-13 minutes.

For the Frosting:

Combine confectioner’s sugar, and milk to make a thick frosting. A dash or two of anise extract is optional.

Drizzle frosting on each cookie. Sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles on top.

I put this in this thread as Anise is the prominent flavor of these cookies..
BTW.. If, for some reason you prefer to not use sesame seeds, they are just as good without them.. Ross

My Jeannie seldom ventures into the business end of the kitchen..

Once or twice a year she bakes a cookie we all love.. She did so yesterday..
This recipe was given to her by a neighbor when she was a newlywed..

They are not very photogenic but, they are really good.. Nice and crunchy.

Bird Seed Cookies
Mix together:
4 eggs
1 1/2 C Crisco
2 C Sugar
Add:
1 TBS Anise extract
4 C Flour
3 tsp baking powder
Mix together until dough is workable. If a little soft, add a little flour, if hard, add a little water.
Roll into ropes 1/2" in diameter, 1 ft long.
Put a layer of Sesame Seeds on the board and roll dough ropes in the seeds.
Cut into 2" pieces and bake @ 350 until light brown, about 15 minutes.

The recipe was typed out on a 3X5 card Jeannie has had for 50+ years..
