I have a cookie recipes that calls for 2 teaspoons cream of tartar. I don't have any and don't want to go to the store for just that. Can I leave it out? What can I substitute?
It may depend on the recipe. Here is a sub. cream of tartar = potassium acid tartrate = potassium bitartrateSubstitutes: lemon juice (use 3 times as much) OR vinegar (use 3 times as much
If your recipe calls for both cream of tartar and baking soda - you could try this using baking powder: 3.2 teaspoons Baking Powder to replace the cream of tartar and REDUCE the baking soda by 3/4 teaspoons from what is called for in the recipe.
